Tia Kennedy

Tia Kennedy is an Indigenous youth advocate and leader in her community. From Oneida Nation of the Thames, born just outside of Walpole Island First Nation she carries both Anishnabee and Haudousnee Teachings. After a brain injury in 2014, she began to stumble down the wrong path, getting involved with alcoholism, drug use, and experiencing mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD. She grew tired of repeating the cycle and started rediscovering her spirituality which led her back to her community. She realized the cracks and bumps in the road weren’t inconveniences but that they were a part of the journey. Her pain and healing happened so she could help inspire others that they are capable of change. Her passion consists of helping others deal with their trauma by connecting mind, body, and spirit. Tia Kennedy is an only child of mixed race with a non-Indigenous father of black and Irish background. Tia Kennedy attended a french first language high school and uses her mixed cultures to create more inclusive and welcoming environments for BIPOC community members. She looks forward to inspiring our future leaders and set them up with the tools they need to accomplish their goals, and find strength in being their authentic selves.
